Rhinelander is the home of the Hodag, the fearsome monster of forest and bog. Encounters have been few, but there would be no better place to spot one than on these deep-forest trails. On the other hand, you'll be having so much fun you might not see a Hodag even if it was trying to hitch a ride. Thanks to a variety of terrain, the Oneida County Forest trails have long been popular with cross country skiers. Snowshoeing, sledding/tubing, warming shelter available. Now, the addition of single track trails for mountain biking make them even more fun for skilled riders. It's Midwest single track at its finest: narrow passages with lots of tight turns, sudden grade changes and enough rocks and roots to make riding a technical challenge.
