Rotary Botanical Gardens
If you've always wanted to see the gardens of the world, but couldn't afford the airfare, we have the solution! Rotary Botanical Gardens is a 20-acre botanical garden showcasing a variety of internationally themed and specialty gardens. Its dedication to international peace and friendship is signified by the 20-foot sculpture at the Gardens' entrance. The Gardens serve as an educational resource and renowned horticultural showcase. Their unique gift shop in the visitor's center offers gifts for all ages and tastes. The Gardens offers educational workshops and seminars, plant sales, and children's activities throughout the year. This year is their 25th Anniversary, so enjoy free admission on the 25th of each month. Also check out their Garden Art Project, developed to promote community participation and artist collaboration at RBG, as well as raise awareness and developmental support for the Gardens. In celebration of the Gardens’ silver anniversary a full size Adirondack chair, created from wood by RBG volunteers, serves as the Garden Art design. Local artists and enthusiastic people of all skill levels artistically interpreted this year’s iconic design. The finished pieces are installed throughout the Gardens where they will be displayed from Mother’s Day to Labor Day for all visitors to enjoy. The chairs will then be sold at a live auction on Sunday, September 7, 2014 at the Gardens. New this year, in addition to the traditional live auction there will also be an online auction for a custom Adirondack chair that has been artistically interpreted by renowned artist and Janesville native, Connie Glowacki. While you're at the Gardens, take a moment to participate in the American Garden Award. This is a unique opportunity for the general public to view, choose and vote on a specific flower that they think has the most appealing garden characteristics. Voting is open from May 1 through September 30, 2014 and is free with admission to the garden. Read more about the American Garden Award at americangardenaward.com.
