The historic character of this Great Lakes fishing port unfolds during a stroll through its charming downtown and waterfront districts. The view from Algoma’s beachfront boardwalk includes a century-old red lighthouse at the end of the breakwater. Once a large commercial fishing port, Algoma is now home to one of the state’s largest charter fishing fleets. Algoma is also a trailhead for the Ahnapee State Trail; an 18-mile section runs north to Sturgeon Bay, and a new 9-mile section runs southwest to Casco Junction crossing the Kewaunee River on a wooden bridge.
