Rhinelander boasts more than 230 lakes within twelve miles. Access to water routes made Rhinelander a logging center. That heritage is preserved in the Pioneer Park Historical Complex. Today, local waterways help support a thriving industrial base and many recreational opportunities.
Top photo opportunity is...
The life-size Hodag Statue at the Visitor Center, located at 450 West Kemp Street in Rhinelander. A snapshot with this fearsome creature is a must for anyone coming to the Northwoods of Wisconsin.
Fishing? You’ll catch the big one if you...
Fish for musky, walleye, bass or panfish on one of the Rhinelander Area’s outstanding lakes including Boom Lake and the Rhinelander Flowage, Crescent Lake, Lake George, Lake Thompson and the Moen Chain.
Explore your adventurous side
The Rhinelander Area offers outstanding opportunities for canoeing and kayaking. Take a paddling trip on the vast Willow Flowage, the famous Wisconsin River, the winding Tomahawk River and the peaceful Pelican River. The Rhinelander Area is one of the best places in the state for woodland trails. Hikers, bikers, snowshoers, cross-country skiers and birdwatchers can choose from dozens of outstanding designated trails.
Must see attractions:
Every visitor to the Rhinelander area should go on a Wisconsin River Cruise aboard the Wilderness Queen. You also don’t want to miss the Pioneer Park Historical Complex, which includes six museums and an authentic re-creation of an 1870s lumberjack camp. And don't miss the world's largest mechanical globe planetarium by visiting the Kovac Planetarium.
