Located on fifty acres of ecological splendor designed by Frederick Law Olmsted’s firm (America’s most famous landscape designers), Yerkes Observatory is the birthplace of modern astrophysics housed in an 1897 architectural masterpiece rising from the shores of Geneva Lake. It is considered the holy grail of American astronomy. The historic site has been reopened after over three years dormant. While keeping science at its core, the nonprofit foundation and staff are establishing an epicenter of big ideas for literature, music, sculpture, tours, astrophysics, education, and many more diverse programs and engaging events.
