Tracks have been set at Lowes Creek and are in fair condition, no tracks set at Tower Ridge as of today but has been groomed. Track set well were there was some base, but in areas were there was no base it is very thin. Basically the conditions are the same as in the fall. Skiing should be fair to good over most of the trail. With more snow we will be out again.hanks for your understanding. • Base: 3 -5
  • Groomed: No

Cross-country ski trails - With timely grooming and lower overnight temps good early morning skiing held through the weekend , but trail conditions did significantly deteriorate over the weekend. Grooming has now ceased in hopes of colder temps and more snow before winter is completely over. The base layer is thin and there are some bare spots, but waxless or your "B" skis should still provide a decent ski in the early part of the day. It will all depend on any rain we get whether or not skiing is still possible. The Ladysmith Lighted Loop has also been packed and the lights are on. Fat Tire Biking - Sisters Farm does have groomed trails specifically for Fat Tire Biking For more detailed grooming and trail reports for the Blue Hills Trail, visit their website below. • Condition: Closed
  • Base: 1 -3
  • Groomed: Yes

Trails range from easy, such as the Purple Trail running along the Willow River, to the challenging Brown and Silver trails. Trails are groomed for both classical and skate skiing. All grooming is done by volunteer groomers who pride themselves in providing the best possible conditions. Conditions: Willow's ski trails were opened to hiking today. Consider all trails to be multiple use at this time until further notice. Reports shared among the groomers indicate skiable snow still exists in scattered areas, but it is essentially not worth the effort or risk. I had a brushing crew on the paved nature trail yesterday. We saw asphalt to ice and evrything in between. . The grooming gear remains ready. (As of 2/15/17) http://dnr.wi.gov/topic/parks/name/willowriver/

Vilas County

  • Updated: 2/24/2017
  • Condition: Fair
  • Base: 8 -10
  • Groomed: Yes

The area is currently under a winter advisory as snow (possibly 6-10”), winds and daytime highs in the low 20’s are forecast through Sunday with temperatures warming to the low 30’s and possible wintery mix for early next week. Be prepared for rapidly changing trail conditions. Many groomers plan on heading out later today and early Saturday to check conditions. Groomed reports as of (date): Afterglow Lake Resort (2/23) – Closed for the season. Anvil (2/16) – Good condition with 6” base and all trails and runs groomed and tracked. Trail could get sticky with warmer weather so morning skiing is what I'm shooting for. Escanaba (2/24) – Fair to poor as warm weather has taken its toll on the trail base. If conditions permit (good amount of snow in the forecast for Friday/Saturday), will try to groom on Saturday. However, standing water on trail or heavy, wet snow may delay grooming. Land O’Lakes Ski (2/15) – Very good condition with all trails tracked this afternoon. Some tree litter from the wind on Sunday, but the grooming took care of most of it. Madeline Lake (2/24) – Fair to poor as warm weather has taken its toll on the trail base. If conditions permit (good amount of snow in the forecast for Friday/Saturday), will try to groom on Saturday. However, standing water on trail or heavy, wet snow may delay grooming. Minocqua Winter Park (1/26) - We survived the meltdown with plenty of base to work with. The Piston Bully was out all night and into the morning tilling up the icy layer. Tracks reset to full depth. It will take several more days to get through all the trails. Expect great skiing for the weekend. Nicolet North (2/16) – Good condition with 8” base and all trails and runs groomed and tracked. Nordmarka (2/15) – Good to fair condition after packing and tracking the entire system this morning. Some scattered pine cones from Sunday’s winds. Pioneer Creek (2/15) – Fair condition. Raven (2/24) – Fair to poor as warm weather has taken its toll on the trail base. If conditions permit (good amount of snow in the forecast for Friday/Saturday), will try to groom on Saturday. However, standing water on trail or heavy, wet snow may delay grooming. Razorback Ridges (2/7) - Checked out the first 100m or so of the trail this morning as a light rain fell. Since then about 1" of snow has fallen, somewhat wet stuff. Tracks set on Sunday still look good so skiing should be decent. Plan to groom and set new track early Friday morning. Reminder of trail change for 2017 so check the warming building for new / rerouted trails. New maps will be available soon, until then pay attention to new intersection signs as a guide. Three Eagle (2/11) – Refreshed the skate lane and reset tracks early this morning. Other than the occasional smattering of oak leaves/pine debris the skiing should be quite enjoyable.. WinMan (2/19) – Good to fair as trails were glazed over and pretty icy this morning. Tilled up the skate lanes and that really transformed the trails, creating some of the best skating yet this year - for about 3 hours. Trails started softening up around noon. Unable to set new track and what's there is starting to get a little shallow. We still have a good base, will look at grooming again Tuesday morning. www.vilas.org

Cross country skiers and snowshoers are welcome to check out Janesville's parks, trails and greenbelts. Volunteers groom trails at Rockport Park and Riverside Golf Course as time allows after we have 6" of snow. Riverside has three groomed trails, about 1 mile each (one cross country, one skate skiing and a walking trail). Rockport Park offers Janesville's most extensive cross country skiing with over 6 miles of diverse trails, color coded for your enjoyment. Trails at Riverside Golf Course may be groomed as volunteers are available. Parking is available in the golf course parking lot with access to the trails on the west side of the building. Although these are the only groomed trails, cross-country skiing is allowed in any city park and our 500 acre greenbelt system. Cross country ski (and snowshoe) equipment is available for rent. Deposits are required and held until the equipment is returned on time and in acceptable condition. Reserve early as sizes are limited and are on a first-come, first-serve basis. Rock County Parks also offer cross country skiing options. Gibbs Lake and Carver-Roehl are suitable for beginner and intermediate skiers, and Magnolia Bluff is best for experts. Contact Rock County at 608-757-5450. www.ci.janesville.wi.us/index.aspx?page=218

2/25/17 UPDATE 3:45pm - FERN DELL AND TURTLEVILLE TRAILS ARE GROOMED!! :) Colder temps tonight should bring good conditions for evening or Sun. morning skiing. Due to lack of snow depth we were unable to set track. Fern Dell trail does have one larger water hazard and a couple of small wet spots but Turtleville is very well snow covered. 12:15pm - we received about 1 1/2 inches of snow on top of the bit of rainy, slush snow that we received Thurs-Fri. We are going to go out and try to groom the Fern Dell Trail, but there is not enough to set any track. If Fern Dell Trail goes ok, then we will try the Turtleville trail next. The State Trail Pass is required at Mirror Lake State Park for our cross-country ski trails along with the State Park Admission sticker for your vehicle. This is the same pass that can be used at Blue Mound, Lapham Peak and many other state trails, which many skiers already have and on the State bike trails in the non-snow season. www.wiparks.net
