Red Cedar State Trail The ski trail is still snow covered but there's not enough to groom and there's no frost in the ground to keep a base. Expected warm conditions this weekend will likely melt what snow we have. The trail will be opened back up for walking and bicycling for the coming weekend. Please refrain from using the trail when it's thawing out and it turns muddy. Deep footprints and bike ruts are difficult to grade out of the trail. Hoffman Hills Recreation Area Ski trails are snow covered but there's not enough to groom. Warm weather this weekend will likely melt what snow we have. Trails will be opened back up for hiking this weekend. https://www.facebook.com/exploremenomonie/

With the warm weather the last few days and the rain on Sunday night and Monday, it was decided to end our season. The base on the trail has been devastated and is non existent under the conifers and in the open. Even with a substantial snow event we would be starting over again. The chalet will be locked as of Tuesday. If you walk on the trail be extra careful because of icing. Come visit in the Summer or we will see you next season. Thank you to all who visited the MECCA Trail System this winter. We wouldn't be here without you. For more information and updates log onto the MECCA trails website www.skimecca.org www.skimecca.org

  • Base: 0
  • Groomed: Yes

Trails range from easy, such as the Purple Trail running along the Willow River, to the challenging Brown and Silver trails. Trails are groomed for both classical and skate skiing. All grooming is done by volunteer groomers who pride themselves in providing the best possible conditions. Conditions: Willow's ski trails were opened to hiking today. Consider all trails to be multiple use at this time until further notice. Reports shared among the groomers indicate skiable snow still exists in scattered areas, but it is essentially not worth the effort or risk. I had a brushing crew on the paved nature trail yesterday. We saw asphalt to ice and evrything in between. . The grooming gear remains ready. (As of 2/15/17) http://dnr.wi.gov/topic/parks/name/willowriver/

  • Updated: 3/14/2017
  • Condition: Poor
  • Base: 1 -2
  • Groomed: No

Partly cloudy skies continue along with daytime highs in mid-30s to mid-40’s with rain / wintery mix in the forecast for the end of the week. Users should be watchful of rapidly changing trail conditions during these times of thaw/freeze temperatures. Most trails have ceased reporting; available information as of (date): Afterglow Lake Resort (2/23) – Closed for the season. Anvil (3/2) – Good to fair conditions with 4” base. Devils Run and Lake Loop not tracked due to lack of base. Military is a little rough in small sections due to heavy foot travel, should set well tonight. Escanaba (3/7) – The recent weather has taken its toll on snow conditions in the north woods. We are suspending grooming of the trails, most likely for the rest of the season. The high winds occurring today have left many branches and debris on the trails. Land O’Lakes Ski (2/24) – Very good conditions (finished grooming at 1PM). With the help of snow the last two days we beat the heat again. Madeline Lake (3/7) – The recent weather has taken its toll on snow conditions in the north woods. We are suspending grooming of the trails, most likely for the rest of the season. The high winds occurring today have left many branches and debris on the trails. Minocqua Winter Park (1/26) - We survived the meltdown with plenty of base to work with. The Piston Bully was out all night and into the morning tilling up the icy layer. Tracks reset to full depth. It will take several more days to get through all the trails. Expect great skiing for the weekend. Nicolet North (3/2) – Good to fair condition with 4” base Good condition with 4" base/ Pat shay, roller coaster, butternut, tom's hill and narrow gage have little use but nice if you want no crowds and you want to skate ski.. Nordmarka (2/15) – Good to fair condition after packing and tracking the entire system this morning. Some scattered pine cones from Sunday’s winds. Pioneer Creek (2/27) – Groomed. Raven (3/7) – The recent weather has taken its toll on snow conditions in the north woods. We are suspending grooming of the trails, most likely for the rest of the season. The high winds occurring today have left many branches and debris on the trails. Razorback Ridges (2/26) – Good to very good condition after grooming most loops for the 3rd day in a row this morning. Skate deck is very good to excellent with just a few thin areas. Same with classic loops. Tracks are mostly excellent, although the tracks cut through to bare ground in a few tiny stretches where previous base had totally disappeared. On the skate side, as of this morning, Long Rider, Will's Crossing and Ridge Trail are groomed. Classic loops groomed are Hair Raiser, Wild Thing, Doug's Folly, Pine Hollow and Short Cut. Tracks and skate base are much firmer than yesterday. Reminder of trail change for 2017 so check the warming building for new / rerouted trails. New maps will be available soon, until then pay attention to new intersection signs as a guide. Three Eagle (2/26) – Reworked the skate lane with two passes, compacting the loose powder and combing fresh corduroy. Left the tracks alone as they were well shaped and solid with a dusting of new snow. Conditions for classic and skating should be really nice before noon on Monday when the heat returns. Sunrise at 6:39AM. Time enough for a quick ski before work? WinMan (3/9) – Closed as the base is a sheet of ice with a thin layer of snow dust on top. The snowshoe trail and bike trail are in about the same condition. With no snow forecast for at least a week, it is unlikely winter trails will be opened again this season. www.vilas.org

Cross country skiers and snowshoers are welcome to check out Janesville's parks, trails and greenbelts. Volunteers groom trails at Rockport Park and Riverside Golf Course as time allows after we have 6" of snow. Riverside has three groomed trails, about 1 mile each (one cross country, one skate skiing and a walking trail). Rockport Park offers Janesville's most extensive cross country skiing with over 6 miles of diverse trails, color coded for your enjoyment. Trails at Riverside Golf Course may be groomed as volunteers are available. Parking is available in the golf course parking lot with access to the trails on the west side of the building. Although these are the only groomed trails, cross-country skiing is allowed in any city park and our 500 acre greenbelt system. Cross country ski (and snowshoe) equipment is available for rent. Deposits are required and held until the equipment is returned on time and in acceptable condition. Reserve early as sizes are limited and are on a first-come, first-serve basis. Rock County Parks also offer cross country skiing options. Gibbs Lake and Carver-Roehl are suitable for beginner and intermediate skiers, and Magnolia Bluff is best for experts.
