Trail report as of February 24, 2017 As of today the trail condition is very very poor and all Mercer Area trails are unrideable. We are currently under a winter weather watch with snow predictions of anywhere from 5– 12 inches. As everyone knows weather forecasts sometimes tend to be wrong. If we do get some measureable snow the club will be starting back out at square one with the panning, rolling and grooming trails. Also note, the flowage is no longer staked. Conditions are updated as we receive reports from the groomers. Please continue to check back on our facebook page, website, TravelWisconsin.com and SnowTracks.com. PLEASE STAY ON THE TRAILS. Please be courteous to our groomers and to each other. ATV/UTV trails are open using the winter ATV/UTV trail system. • Condition: Closed
  • Base: 0 -2
  • Groomed: No

Snowmobile Trails - Rusk County trails will close Thursday, February 16 at 8am due to poor conditions and warm weather. This is a temporary closure, meaning trails could reopen should conditions improve. Trail conditions have deteriorated this week and will continue to do so with even warmer weather forecast. The decision to temporarily close will hopefully help preserve those areas where a base is still present and prevent damage in areas that are already bare. Riding on area lakes and rivers is discouraged. Swamps and creeks may be soft or have open water, and beware of ice crossings due to ice chunks and possible open water. No ice should ever be considered safe. Check back for updates and changes in trail status as weather/conditions change. www.ruskcountywi.com/snowmobiling/

Date: February 23 Trail Conditions: Poor Posted by: Barry Hopkins We just rode through sections of trail 2 (trail goes to Boulder Jct) between Smokey’s and the intersection on trail 6. Then we rode north and then back south of that intersection towards Winchester and back towards MW on trail 6. We found 6″ + standing water over an ice base of the swamp section. Some pretty tough riding to navigate (almost like water skipping) We need some cold weather to firm this up to make it safer. The County will be voting Monday on whether to stay open or temporarily close. I will let you know as soon as I do. I would discourage riding through the areas I mentioned. Our trails remain in Poor condition. We got 2" of heavy wet snow last night, we are supposed to start getting substantial snow tonight through tomorrow. I am heading out soon to check conditions and will update later today. If we get the snow they are talking about, we should be able to get out and Pan the trails tomorrow night. At that point our trails could possibly be upgraded to fair. But lets see what happens. Trail condition: Poor www.manitowishwaters.org

2/24/17----Updates have been posted by individual clubs. Some of the combination snowmobile-winter atv trails are open, but not all. Please see the individual trial reports from each club listed below: 2/24/17: DUN-GOOD RIDERS (snowmobile & atv-utv trails in the Dunbar & Goodman areas): We got about 5" of wet heavy snow and the predication is for more to come later today. Trails are open and the groomers will be out working so watch for the equipment on the trails. *Safely move over and get out of the way until the unit passes you or the operator signals it's OK for you to pass*. Trails will be in good condition despite the warm temps and rain we had earlier. Trails are open for atv's & utv's. 2/24/17: PEMENEE RIVER RIDERS (snowmobile & atv-utv trails in the Pembine-Beecher areas): Trails are open but not being groomed. Conditions are questionable for snowmobiles because swamps and creeks are open and there are so many areas with standing water. Ride with care. CAUTION!!! Use extra caution on the trail behind the bank in Pembine!! The area is flooded. Trails are open to atv's & utv's 2/24/17: NEAR NORTH (snowmobile & atv-utv trails in the Athelstane area):Trails are open, but no grooming will be done until it gets colder. Too much water in the low areas of the trail! Ride with caution! The trails are open to ATV's & UTV's. 2/24/17: RIVER ROAD RIDERS: Trails are back open....CAUTION!!!! RIDE AT YOUR OWN RISK! Swamps are flooded, creeks are open. We received 3" of wet heavy snow last night on top of the grass base we had yesterday = poor conditions. Riding is not recommended. TRAILS WILL NOT BE GROOMED. No atv's/utv's allowed at any time. 2/24/17: KUMALONG SNO-RIDERS: Our trails are CLOSED because of lack of snow and our concern that damage will be done to the farmers hay fields (of which we cross many acres ). Should we get extended colder weather, we will re-open our trails. No atv's/utv's allowed at any time. 2/24/17: IRON SNOW SHOE: For snowmobiles only. Gates are being reopened as you are reading this! We received 3 to 5 inches of new heavy wet snow. More coming tonight and into tomorrow. The trail will be in early season riding condition. The groomers are attempting to go out and pack this snow. Once they get out there, we will have to see how it goes as to whether they can groom the whole trail. Please, proceed with CAUTION. There is standing water on the trail due to the lengthy warm temps. Some of these so called puddles may be quite deep! Also WATERWAYS ARE NOT SAFE. Do NOT go on any lake or flowages. Sat. February 25th---Vintage Snowmobile Ride & Poker Run starts from Thunder Lake Lodge. 2/24/17: Ranger City Riders: Our trails are closed, too much standing water. Trails are not safe to let people ride through. Sorry, unless it gets cold enough to freeze up the swamps again. We will have to see what the next couple days bring us www.therealnorth.com

Cross Country Cruisers Trail Report 2/23/17 Cross Country Cruisers trails have taken a big hit with this last round of warm weather. But, what is this we see in the forecast!! Who do you believe, is it really going to happen, is it just a false alarm, just another time for us snow lovers to get our hopes up just to see it track to our south or fizzle out to a dusting. Well I for one want to believe we will be riding again this weekend in the great Northwood's!! Depending on which meteorologist you chose to follow or believe it looks like Cruiser Country is in the line of a good solid 8". Some even saying as much as 12". There are several bare spots on our trails as of this morning and some ponding of water in some low areas. If, or should I be optimistic and say when we get this new snow a lot of these areas will improve but some caution should be taken. We will be back to some early season like conditions, but I believe there will be some good riding again this weekend and into next week. We will resume some limited grooming this weekend and try to get the trails back into good condition. Also our volunteers that mark the lakes have reported some of the markers have fallen down. They have been back out and replaced many of them but there may be a few missing so again use some extra caution. There is also some standing water in some areas on the lakes hopefully these will freeze over again with the incoming colder temps. There is also going to be some logging starting Monday the 27th on corridor 17 between Hwy 51 and Vandercook on the Trilby Trail. There have been signs posted with logging ahead and trucks hauling. Please slow down and stay to the right in this area! As always RIDE RIGHT RIDE SAFE! Steve Wolfe, Trail Boss www.minocqua.org

Townsend - Red Arrow Snowmobile - ATV Club - We have received 4″-5″ of snow so far with more forecast for this afternoon and night. We went for a snowmobile ride this morning to see if it is safe to groom the low lying areas. We will go out and groom our entire trail system tonight. Expect early season riding conditions with some gravel on the Nicolet and large rocks showing up in the hills and low spots southwest of town. On many trails we are basically starting all over again, so be careful! Our sister club to the south told me they will be grooming the grade and a few other trails as well and not grooming some trails because of to much water in some areas and fear of getting a groomer stuck. Lakewood - Paul Bunyan Snowmobile Club - The Lakewood area received 4 to 5 inches of heavy wet snow with a possibility of a little more. The trails lost most of the great base we had so there will be rocks and ruts like early season condition except the ground was still frozen and with the high temperatures there is a lot of standing water. We are going to try to groom some of the high areas but not near any swampy areas. Use extreme caution if you ride. Bagley and Brazeau - Joyriders Trails - CLOSED. Chute Pond Snowmobile Club - Chute Pond trails are open, and we are not grooming at this time. With the fresh snowfall, our trails are in mostly poor to fair very early season condition. Additional snow today would help improve trail conditions. If the weather forecast comes true and we actually do get the 4-8" or the 8-12" of snow through tonight, trails may or may not get groomed, but they will still be in very early season riding condition, with some significant wet areas in the low spots. ALL LAKES SHOULD BE CONSIDERED UNSAFE at this time because of deteriorating ice along the shorelines. Please ride with caution if you head out onto the trails. Gillett Sno ATV Riders - CLOSED. Oconto Falls - Sno Jokers Trails - CLOSED. Lena Snow Drifters - CLOSED. Chase Sno-Chasers - CLOSED. www.ocontocounty.org

Looking at trails from the road, they are pretty good, but not groomed yet (2:00 Saturday). Be careful! Maintaining 40 miles of the best trails in Northern Wisconsin. phelpssnowmobileclub.com

Rhinelander Area

  • Updated: 2/25/2017
  • Condition: Fair
  • Base: 4 -8
  • Groomed: Yes

Winter is back! Snow has arrived once again! We received around 4+ inches this morning and this evening. The groomers were out tonight compacting and trying to revitalize the skate deck. The deck is thin with a layer of ice underneath. They will return tomorrow to brush the deck in the late afternoon/evening. We are not setting any classic tracks at this time. The warm temperatures this week really did a number on our base. We will need more snow to resurrect them. Its like the beginning of the season..... again. The trails are still rideable by all means, they are just not in great shape. From lack of fresh snow, the corners are becoming icy in some situations. The conditions will change quickly in the next 4-7 days. The report will be updated as frequently as the conditions change. Make tracks to Rhinelander for your next snowmobile safari! Rhinelander is the county seat of Oneida and offers a variety of lodging, shopping, nightlife and fun for every visitor’s taste and budget. Oneida County 1,000 miles of groomed trails connect Rhinelander with all of Northern Wisconsin and Michigan Upper Peninsula. Trails flow through highlands hardwoods, pine forests, low lying bogs filled with spruce and tamarack, and wide-open spaces of frozen lakes and farmer’s fields. www.oneidacountywi.com/trailreports.php
