Ashland County

  • Updated: 1/30/2015
  • Condition: Good-Partially Open
  • Base: 2 -12
  • Groomed: Yes

The snowmobile trails throughout the county are PARTIALLY OPEN, groomed and in good condition. The portion of the trail from Ashland south to Marengo is still closed due to lack of snow cover. It will reopen once that area receives adequate snowfall. Riders wishing to travel across to Bayfield County may do so by heading west from Clam Lake. The trails in the southern part of Ashland County, near Mellen, Glidden and Butternut, are currently in excellent condition as that area has received a higher amount of snow. The Tri-County Corridor, a 62-mile stretch of abandoned railroad right-of-way running from Ashland to Superior, is always OPEN. The Corridor was groomed again recently and is in very good shape with a nice, smooth surface for riding. Please check our website, www.visitashland.com, for detailed trail reports or call the Snowmobile Report hotline at 1-800-284-9484. (NOTE: If you call before 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, you will reach one of our Chamber staff members who can give you the snowmobile report. If you call after 5 or on the weekends, you will hear the snowmobile hotline recording.) If you would like a Snowmobile Map/Brochure for Ashland County, please let us know and we will be happy to mail one out to you. Our Frozen Ground ATV Trail System is OPEN for ATV, UTV & Snowmobile use at this time and are in very poor condition. PLEASE READ on for important information: After consultation with our Snowmobile Trail Association, the Frozen Ground ATV Trail System will be open for snowmobile traffic as well as ATV/UTV use at this time. Be sure to follow only the trails marked with the GREEN blazers. This trail system is shown on the BACK of the snowmobile map and also on our website. All trails are in POOR CONDITION with many bare spots in open areas. We need to receive a more significant snowfall to support ideal snowmobile travel. No grooming can be done in the current conditions. Snowmobiles, ATVs and UTVs must be registered or licensed in order to ride. Some township ordinances allow for ATV/UTV use of the town roads and others do NOT allow it. It is the rider's responsibility to contact the township in which you plan to ride in and get the current rules pertaining to ATVs/UTVs and the town roads. Please see contact information on our website. NO OFF-TRAIL USE IS ALLOWED. You may ride your ATV/UTV on the Gandy Dancer Trail from Tewalt Road, (which is just south of Siren), and continue north in Burnett County during this time of year. The only state-funded trails open to ride are those marked with GREEN blazers. The above information is only for the state-funded trails. For information on the unfunded club trails, please go to our website under "Snowmobile Trails" for links to club information. It is your responsibility to know where you are and whose property you are on. If you are unsure of where Burnett County Forest Land is located, please refer to a Burnett County Plat Book, or you may check our website under "Maps/GIS". Please be careful, be respectful to other trail users, and ride safely. Be sure to check back here for trail updates. www.burnettcounty.com/index.aspx?NID=139

  • Condition: Good
  • Base: 10 -12
  • Groomed: Yes

All the LDF trails are in good shape except on trail 17 where it crosses the Powell Marsh. The snow is getting very thin north and south of the Powell Marsh bridge. Gravel is showing through so make sure you slow down in this area. We did get 3" of new snow on Monday that has improved the conditions of all our trails. The club has marked the trails across the lakes and they are safe to ride on except for parts of Fence lake. The trail running across Fence lake from East to West is marked and open but the North and South trail will not be marked due to very deep slush. We will continue to monitor this trail and mark it when conditions improve. The weather forecast is showing high temperatures in the teens for this weekend so it looks like we will have another great weekend of snowmobiling in the Lac du Flambeau area. A big thanks to all those that stopped by the Trailside Inn and purchased a brat or bowl of chili from the Northern Hornshoe snowmobile club. Check out the LDF webcam for the latest snow depths. It can be seen on the Northern Hornshoe Trails Snowmobile Club website at--- www.Hornshoe.org--- Slow down, stay to the right side of the trail and ride safe. www.hornshoe.org

Minocqua Cross Country Cruisers trail report 1/26: Tons of traffic the past few weekends! The warm weather Friday and Saturday combined with the high traffic took a toll on some trails. Our groomers are out in force working with what we have and trying to get them back in shape. We did get a couple inches today but really need a good storm to get them Excellent again. TRAIL REPORT 1/22/2015 Minocqua Forest Riders Thanks everyone who came north last weekend. Trail use indicates that we probably had a record number of sleds enjoying our system. Unfortunately, the warmest day of the season also happened to be last Saturday, which saw the most traffic. This combination of events has left our trails in Good to Very Good condition. The only thing that will bring them back into the very good to excellent category is some cooperation from Mother Nature. At this point in the season, we simply need more snow! Special Remarks: • Trail D (the Kobart Trail) is in fair condition. • The logging activity on Trail 11 seems to have ended and the trail is being groomed. • Trail 5B in the southwest section of our system remains closed. Grooming Schedule: Thursday Evening: Corridor Trail 10W & Club Trail D Friday Morning: Corridor Trail 10E & Club Trail 9 (INT605 to INT604) Friday Evening: Corridor Trail 12, Club Trail 5, Club Trail 7 & Club Trail 5A Saturday Evening: Corridor Trail 10 & Clubs Trail S, 11 & 9 (INT605 to INT604) Sunday Evening: Corridor Trail 12W (INT676 to INT662) & Club Trail 5 Monday Morning: Corridor Trail 12E (INT676 to INT865) & Club Trail 7 Monday Evening: Corridor Trail 10 & Club Trail 9 Tuesday/Wednesday: All other Club Trails Be aware that the schedule may change from time to time due to weather and snow conditions. www.minocqua.org

  • Condition: Good

  • Groomed: Yes

The first words from our guests are “It’s like Driving into winter!” Yes, Far North Central Wisconsin has an abundance of snow compared to the southern portion of the state and as I write this report, more snow is falling! Last weekend’s warmer temperatures and heavy snowmobile traffic exacted their toll, but “double pass” grooming has all trails west of Presque Isle in VERY GOOD condition. As I write… 6 East of Presque Isle in GOOD to condition Today’s snow has added 2 inches of fresh on top of last night’s grooming, so those conditions will improve. Midweek riding has been perfect with heavier traffic on the weekends. This week’s forecast has us inline a good chance of midweek snow and a cold weekend. I think conditions are nearly perfect for a visit to Presque Isle… REMEMBER “ride right”, stay on trail, and if you’re not familiar with the lake... don't go! Stay Tuned for Updates and “Think Snow”. Trails remain in good to very good conditions. Looks like a very busy weekend with many riders in the area. Some busier and in town trails are looking a bit run down due to the lack of a good snowfall for awhile. But we still have enough snow as our groomers continue to go out to keep them as smooth as we can. Caution as ice begins to build in certain areas and corners. Always be alert while riding. www.boboen.com

After a few more inches of snow earlier the trails are looking white again. We have huge amounts of traffic the last few weekends with Northern Wisconsin the only area in the midwest with snow. Our trails are in very good condition. Yes, you may come across a icy corner or some snirt here or there, but they really are in very good condition. This weekend, the temps will be a little cooler which will help. Get up early and ride, we are grooming nightly, so the best trails are first thing in the morning. It sounds like Eagle River is getting there trail system back in shape after having major groomer break downs. If you are looking to just come up to Three Lakes for the day and ride, I will be posting a map of places to park and ride today on our Facebook page. Lakes are all marked and safe, please stay close to the barrels. If you are looking for a deal on lodging, head over to our Facebook page today to see the special offer one of our sponsors has. Clubs have been busy finishing the last of trail markings. Several trails have been moved - most notably the one in and out of Big Green Lake. Make sure to follow trail markers because the quickest way to get a trail closed is by riding out of the markers. Cold temps are getting the ground and swamps froze. Now all we need is more snow. Support your local club by becoming a member, donate a few hours over the year by helping with trails and fundraisers. And if you can't do that, please buy a few extra raffle tickets, stop at the brat fry's, or donate directly to the groomer funds each club has. Thank you - see you in 2015 Trail passes can now be purchased at Fox River Travel - BP Station in Princeton. USE THE HOTLINE BEFORE RIDING TO MAKE SURE TRAILS ARE OPEN - recorded message at 920-294-3220 TRESPASSING HAS BECOME A PROBLEM - Please stay on the trails - While you may not think you are causing any problems - riding outside the marked trails will only destroy club and landowner relations . When landowners get upset they say NO TRAIL THROUGH HERE ANYMORE! And then where will you ride? So use your head and stay on the trails. Please join a club to help support the great trail system these clubs provide. PLEASE -STAY ON TRAILS - NO TRESPASSING greenlakecountysnowmobiletrails.com

UPDATED: NOON FRIDAY, JANUARY 30th, 2015 As zones begin to open, riders are reminded that "early season riding conditions" exist, and caution needs to be exercised. Conditions range from fair to good, but we are in need a some snow to freshen things up a bit. All the trails in Shawano County are made possible by the volunteer efforts of the members of 18 different clubs. Members work throughout the year with landowners, the DNR and State associations to be sure we all have trails to ride when the snow flies. Are you a club member? If not, consider joining your local club and learning just how vulnerable our trails are when clubs experience a lack of help or riders who disrespect landowners' property.
