Fort Atkinson is best known to visitors as the home of The Fireside Dinner Theatre, which presents professional Broadway musicals year-round along with fine dining and boutique shops. Founded by General Henry Atkinson in 1832, the city also enjoys a rich heritage that is celebrated with a historic downtown, a replica of the original fort, the acclaimed Hoard Historical Museum and National Dairy Shrine, and the annual Fort Koshkonong Rendezvous that allows visitors a chance to experience life in the 1800s. With the scenic Rock and Bark Rivers meandering through town on their way to Lake Koshkonong, visitors can enjoy the water by boat, canoe, or along the riverwalk which connects to the Glacial River Bike/Pedestrian Trail.
