Skiing & Snowboarding in Wisconsin

Enjoy some of the best views of Wisconsin on a ski run or catch some air at a terrain park. Our ski (and snowboard) resorts provide the perfect setting for a winter vacation with your family and friends.

Air-Raising Fun

Wisconsin is a year-round destination for outdoor activities, and when winter arrives, snow sports like skiing and snowboarding add to its allure.

At Rib Mountain State Park, the Granite Peak Ski Area near Wausau has over 60 runs, more than 200 acres of terrain and four terrain parks. Plus, it’s home to a high-speed chair lift, and guests can enjoy tree skiing. Cascade Mountain in Portage is in a central location between Madison and Wisconsin Dells and has nearly 50 trails, its longest is over a mile-long, and four terrain parks on its 180 acres of land.

West of Madison, Tyrol Basin near Mount Horeb features over 20 ski runs and several terrain parks with freestyle ramps, rails and more. Tyrol, which is open in the summer for hiking and chairlift rides, also features snow tubing lanes and ski and snowboarding lessons. Wilmot Mountain is another top destination for skiing and snowboarding. Near the Wisconsin-Illinois border and Milwaukee, this attraction offers 130 acres for skiing and four terrain parks, as well as ski and snowboard lessons for beginners. It’s also a hot spot for downhill racing clubs.

Each of the resorts mentioned offers trails for every skill-set, from beginner to expert.

Lessons, Cafes & More

If you’re new to skiing or snowboarding or need a refresher, Wisconsin resorts are happy to help make your winter trip the best it can be.

Granite Peak offers several types of lessons, including private and group, for kids and adults, and has an experienced tour guide on-staff if you’d like to learn the lay of the land from a professional. Throughout the winter season, the resort hosts family festival weekends, a celebration that includes a fireworks show, scavenger hunts and more. After a long day, drink hot chocolate and warm up by a fire pit on the resort’s chalet deck.

Cascade offers ski and snowboarding lessons and has lanes for snow tubing. Plus, a handful of cafes and bars to refuel before you enjoy more outdoor fun. Both resorts are near family-friendly accommodations, including hotels and resorts.

Cozy Lodgings

While many of our ski resorts are near places to stay, some feature cozy accommodations.

Devil’s Head Resort is a top ski and snowboarding resort near Baraboo, home of Devil’s Lake State Park, and features plenty of lodging options, including condos, guest rooms and suites. The resort has ski slopes for all skill levels and two terrain parks.

Grand Geneva Resort & Spa in Lake Geneva offers luxury accommodations, from villas to suites. Parties of more than 15 people get a special rate on equipment rentals. With 20 ski runs, guests can enjoy skiing, day and night, and snowboarding, as well as ice skating, sledding and snowshoeing in the wintertime.

Before you hit the slopes, check out the Wisconsin Snow Report for the latest information on each resort across the state. Many of the previously named resorts make artificial snow to ensure a long season for skiing and snowboarding, no matter what the Wisconsin winter brings.

Whether you’re strapping up for the first time with family or a seasoned pro ready to show off your skills alongside friends, Wisconsin has everything you need for an air-raising experience.
