Lakefront Oak Leaf Trail
Variety is what cities are all about, and you'll find plenty along this route that features segments of the Oak Leaf Trail. Culture, industry, entertainment, historic sites, architecture, and lovely parks are all part of the package. From Juneau Park, where city founder Solomon Juneau built his trading post, a rail bed trail follows the river to the Kilbourntown House historic site. Stately mansions line Newberry Boulevard, Wahl, and Terrace Avenues. The lake parks have their own treasures: the white lighthouse, soaring Gothic water tower, and streamlined McKinley Park Beach House are priceless. Milwaukee is a great city, truly a Genuine American City. Kids will love a visit to the Betty Brinn Children's Museum, or the Milwaukee County Zoo. The Milwaukee Public Museum is a world-class treasure whose exhibits range from a Costa Rican rain forest to life-size mobile dinosaurs. The Mitchell Park Conservatory Domes are unique, three glass biospheres displaying the flora of a rain forest, desert and a seasonal display. For adults, Milwaukee's breweries, from micros to the giant Miller Brewery, offer refreshing tours. Harley-Davidson plant tours are a centerpiece for visitors. Miller Park, the home of the Milwaukee Brewers, wows fans with its retractable roof. Milwaukee is also a "City of Festivals": Summerfest, German Fest, Irish Fest, African World Fest, and Indian Summer Fest to name just a few. You'll find great ethnic food, music and fun along the lakeshore on almost any summer weekend. Enjoy!
