Historic Downtown Trempealeau
Following a fire that destroyed all but five downtown businesses in 1888, legend has it "a team of 100 horses" moved the remaining buildings to their current location on Main Street. This downtown area, with the Mississippi River at its base, is representative of all the towns that flourished along the river freight route. Today the entire two blocks of downtown are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
