Farm Stay Vacations in Wisconsin

Share

Farm stay vacations give travelers the chance to escape from the everyday and experience all the fun of a working farm. Whether you’re looking for a change from city life or a unique place to stay the whole family will love, Wisconsin is home to many special farm stays that let you and your crew get up close and personal with adorable animals and scenic vistas. And with charming accommodations and friendly hosts, you’ll get a glimpse of what Wisconsin’s all about.

The Dairy at Wegmueller Farm – Monroe

Less than five miles from Monroe and just two hours from Chicago, staying on this fourth-generation working dairy farm is more than just a place to lay your heads at night. At Wegmueller Farm, you and your crew can immerse yourself in the rolling hills of Green County and learn about sustainable agriculture in Wisconsin while getting to hang out with cute animals—including the family pigs, Professor Paisley and Chonkey.

Owners Dan and Ashley love teaching guests how to milk a cow, feed a baby calf and go horseback riding on the peaceful property. The recently renovated farmhouse sleeps up to nine people and looks out at the horses grazing in their pastures. At night, your family will be astounded by the breathtaking views of the Milky Way while enjoying cheesy pizza delivered right to your door from one of two nearby restaurants. And if a baby calf is born during your stay, you even get to name it!

The Farmer’s Inn – Viroqua

A rustic, log cabin located in the scenic Driftless area, the Farmer’s Inn is located on a small family dairy farm and invites you and your group to experience a one-of-a-kind stay surrounded by rolling hills. Unpack your bags in the cozy cabin that sleeps up to six and includes a porch perfect for sipping coffee together in the mornings. During the day, you can bottle-feed a calf, milk a cow by hand, pet the horses and help collect eggs from the chicken coop.

Be sure to venture into Viroqua, where you can enjoy some farm-to-table fare at the Driftless Café and a locally-roasted coffee at the original Wonderstate Coffee.

Palmquist Farm – Brantwood

All year round, Palmquist Farm is your country escape offering cozy cabin accommodations and activities for the whole family. This farm resort is located on 1500 acres and is a working beef and lumber farm that also specializes in Finnish hospitality, including delicious home-cooked meals.

During the warmer months, enjoy horseback riding, hiking trails, fishing in bluegill and trout-stocked ponds and feeding and playing with the farm animals, including chickens, rabbits, calves and horses. When the property is snow-covered, you and your crew can go cross-country skiing, sledding, ice skating and even take a magical horse-drawn sleigh ride together. There’s also a Finnish sauna on the property to keep you warm and toasty. No matter what the season, there is fun to be found at Palmquist Farm.

Rainbow Ridge Farms Bed & Breakfast – Onalaska

This bed and breakfast just north of La Crosse offers stunning views, peaceful surroundings and adorable animals. Goats, chickens, cats, dogs and more roam the property, and babies are born every year. Learn about sustainable farming techniques, hike around the picturesque land and try your hand at bottle feeding in the spring.

With air conditioning, Wi-Fi and an outdoor fire pit perfect for stargazing around, Rainbow Ridge is a great place to get away, slow down and enjoy quality time with your favorite people.

Justin Trails B&B Resort - Sparta

The owners of Justin Trails have been welcoming guests to their farmhouse resort since the 1980s, with travelers coming to stay from all over the world. Here, you can wander scenic trails through a private coulee, play disc golf together and hand-feed the resident llamas, Porter and Stout. Choose from farmhouse suits, log cabins or three drive-in tent campsites for the ultimate adventure. You can even stay in a renovated chicken coop! Bring the family pup along and enjoy a homemade breakfast each morning to fuel up for the day ahead. At night, relax in a whirlpool tub or around a cozy campfire while stargazing with loved ones.

Casacampo - Wisconsin Dells

Stay with your crew at a family-run alpaca ranch just outside Wisconsin Dells for a unique getaway full of charming touches. Casacampo offers stays in a stylish, renovated 1800s farmhouse or cozy bunkhouse cabin, each with easy access to the on-site sauna, gardens and fire pit. Spend your morning getting a behind-the-scenes tour of the ranch, including meeting the friendly goats and llamas, and the evenings enjoying live music, ice cream and Peruvian wines in the Ranch Lounge for a truly one-of-a-kind getaway.

Velvet Sheep Farms B&B - Sheboygan

Discover an enchanting farm escape just outside Sheboygan at Velvet Sheep Farms Bed & Breakfast. Spend time petting the resident sheep and goats, reading in the library nook and enjoying a fresh-cooked breakfast each morning. This is the perfect peaceful jumping-off point for adventures at Kohler-Andrae State Park, Road America, the John Michael Kohler Arts Center and more!

Irish Acres Farm Stay - New London

Stay amidst the lush abundance at Irish Acres to stroll through a serene landscape that includes gardens, orchards, a spring-fed pond and labyrinth. The glamping experience here includes a small Fairy Cabin or the nature-inspired Secret Garden Room, nestled between two greenhouses. Learn about organic, biodynamic growing processes on a free one-hour guided walking tour, shop for produce and other goods in the farm market and end your day roasting s’mores around the campfire.

Together Farms -  Mondovi

Find a rustic farm stay experience at Together Farms, which offers a variety of walk-in campsites throughout the picturesque property. The regenerative farm (meaning the owners are working to improve the land and community via happy animals and healthy soil) is home to pasture-raised, grass-fed cows, sheep, pigs and chickens that you’re sure to see grazing throughout your stay. From May to October, the farm hosts burger nights on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, serving meat from the farm and local beer and wine while live music plays. Gorgeous vistas throughout the property make for memorable sunrises and sunsets at this farm stay you’ll want to revisit again and again.

Starry Nights Farm - Wheatland

In Southeast Wisconsin, Starry Nights Farm offers the chance to slow down, connect with nature and immerse yourself in life on a family farm. You and your group will stay in an impressive net-zero energy farmhouse where you are free to roam the property, explore the pastures and visit with the cattle, guinea fowl, barn cats and Cookie the donkey. This certified organic and regenerative farm welcomes guests in all four seasons and makes for a truly special stay.

Lake Orchard Farm Retreat - Sheboygan

Enjoy a farm stay right on the shore of Lake Michigan at Lake Orchard Farm Retreat in Sheboygan. This six-generation family farm puts you between rolling fields, fruit orchards and the stunning Great Lake for a perfect couple’s retreat or family getaway.
