3 Reasons to Stay at a Wisconsin B&B for the Holidays

There’s nothing quite as nostalgic as the sight of a massive old home decked out for the holidays, so why not head to a Wisconsin B&B to observe your festivities this year? Check out a few of our favorite bed & breakfasts for holiday-related perks, and three reasons to stay the night!

Festivities That Define Fun

You’ll find merriment aplenty waiting at Wisconsin’s B&Bs, from “Trick-or-treat!” to “Happy New Year!”

Just about every major holiday is observed at Cobblestone Bed & Breakfast in Birchwood, even Easter and the Fourth of July. Around Halloween, this turn-of-the-century country manor transforms into a haunted house for trick-or-treating. Christmas and New Year’s Eve are festive affairs with champagne and hors d’oeuvres.

Immerse yourself in an old-timey Christmas with a stay at the Fargo Mansion Inn during Lake Mills’ Classic Christmas Weekend in December. This restored Queen Ann estate is just two blocks off Lake Mills' main downtown venue for events, Commons Park. Tour beautifully decorated homes, stroll the shops in the square and see one of the tallest Santa displays in the state.

Not Just Breakfast, But Dinner!

Wisconsin puts the “breakfast” in bed & breakfast, but many of the state’s B&Bs go beyond the morning meal to offer spectacular dinner events.

A Thanksgiving lodging package at the Old Rittenhouse Inn in Bayfield includes a five-course Thanksgiving dinner at the on-site Landmark Restaurant. The meal comes with all of your favorite fixings, but expect plenty of sophisticated twists. Roasted turkey with corn soufflé and cranberry chutney, anyone?

Meanwhile, Door County’s White Gull Inn is famous for its traditional Wisconsin fish boil, offered four nights a week May through October and Fridays the rest of the year. Warm yourself by the open bonfire cooking your food, feast on fresh-caught Lake Michigan whitefish and finish with the house cherry pie for dessert.

Eagle Centre House Bed & Breakfast is a replication of an 1800s stagecoach inn, and it’s across the road from Old World Wisconsin, making for lots of collaborative deals throughout the year. One of the highlights is the four-course Holiday Dinner during An Old World Christmas, which comes with lodging specials at Eagle Centre.

Family Togetherness (or … not)

Does your clan need a lot of room? Consider hosting your holiday gathering at Bowman’s Oak Hill Bed & Breakfast in Wisconsin Dells. With traditional suites and private cottages, everyone can have their own bathroom, and no one has to get up early to make breakfast for the group!

If you’re visiting family near Whitewater but don’t want to crash on someone’s couch, check out Hamilton House Bed & Breakfast's holiday special. You’ll relax on a pillowtop queen or king bed and warm up with a whirlpool or fireplace in this 1861 Victorian home.

Or, if you’d rather make your holiday getaway just about you and your sweetie, book the Romantic Escape Package at Lazy Cloud Bed & Breakfast in Fontana. Have a picnic in front of the fireplace in your room, soak in a double whirlpool bubble bath and relax an hour away with an in-suite massage. After a long weekend, you’ll be ready for anything, even a big extended family get-together.
