Chilly Wisconsin winters are the perfect excuse to snuggle up in front of the fireplace with your special someone and let your worries melt away. Why not make a weekend—or a week—out of it? Here are some ideal spots for you and yours to escape this winter.

La Crosse

When Karl and Tracy Hackbarth built a romantic bungalow on 200 acres of land east of La Crosse, they aimed to make it a place they would love to visit.

They later constructed three additional chalets at Percheron Paradise, and seclusion was paramount. To ensure guests had total privacy, they built each at different elevations. Every cabin features an oversized whirlpool, two-person shower and a fireplace.

Each property is unique, so whether you’re looking to curl up next to the fireplace in your own cozy bungalow, hike picturesque hillsides or watch the sunset from a whirlpool in a hillside chalet, this Coulee Region haven has you covered.

You may not want to leave your private retreat, but if you’re looking for a romantic dinner, take a trip into La Crosse. Try the cozy, eclectic Kate’s on State for California-influenced Italian dishes or the upscale Le Chateau, a French restaurant housed in a historic downtown mansion.

Make Percheron Paradise your destination when celebrating a special occasion or just looking to get away from it all.

Mineral Point

If you’re looking for a truly unique experience, plan a stay in the Cabin at The Cothren House. Built in the 1830s, this historic log cabin located near downtown Mineral Point has been restored to allow for modern amenities while preserving its rustic charm.
Cozy up in plush bathrobes in front of the nine-foot fireplace and you’ll be transported to a simpler time.

Take in more of the community’s history by enjoying a meal at the Brewery Creek Brewpub, a restored historic warehouse, or in one of the original mining cave rooms at The Walker House (be sure to call ahead—meals are by reservation only).

Egg Harbor

Door County Cottages is home to six luxury cabins on 15 acres of secluded Door County countryside.

With each featuring fireplaces and whirlpool tubs and some boasting saunas and heated floors, it’s a great destination for warming up a chilly Wisconsin winter.
The Elise and Elena – semi-underground cottages embedded into the side of a hill overlooking a farmscape—feature floor to ceiling windows revealing breathtaking panoramas. Either provides the perfect setting for a couple’s getaway.

Be sure to stop by Door County Coffee & Tea Co. before heading home. With more than 60 coffees and teas to choose from, you’ll be sure to thaw any winter chill that’s left.

Richland Center

Experience the serene beauty of winter like never before from the comfort of Anaway Place.

Building on the concept of their popular Glass House, the newest cabin offers modern décor, a full kitchen, a full bath with double-sized shower and a wood stove fireplace. The 360 degrees of floor-to-ceiling windows reveal striking panoramas providing a breathtaking backdrop for a romantic retreat.

Stop by Weggy Winery for a tasting while you’re in the area. With more than 30 different wines to choose from, it’s home to the largest selection of Wisconsin-grown and produced wines in the state.

Cabins and cottages are aplenty here in Wisconsin. Find the perfect one that fits the needs of you and yours.
