All right, tea probably isn’t top of mind when you think Wisconsin, but surprisingly there are a number of elegant establishments across the state, many still carrying on the afternoon and high tea tradition.
From cakes and crumpets served on delicate china to something a little more savory, you’ll find these tearooms perfect for a leisurely afternoon with friends.
The Watts Tea Shop – Milwaukee
This eclectic and historic tearoom is nestled in the heart of downtown Milwaukee. Walk in the door and you’re greeted by an enchanting gift shop, filled with an assortment of treasures including crystal, kitchenware and art. When you’re done perusing, head upstairs to the tea room for breakfast, light fare or their full lunch menu. They, of course, offer a wide variety of teas, including standard English breakfast and their own mixed black tea herbal blend. We also recommend their iced teas…delicious!
Legacy House Imports Tea Room – Madison
In true Victorian style, experience a traditional English afternoon tea tray complete with finger sandwiches, scones, bread and dainty and delicious desserts. This old world gem also sells gourmet coffee, unique housewares, gifts and ethnic items including teas and teapots from all over the world. Lunch reservations are highly recommended.
Johanna May's Fine Teas – Weston
Located just outside Wausau, stop in for lunch and enjoy gourmet soups, salads and sandwiches. The formal four-course tea service is truly one-of-a-kind with petite sandwiches and savories, gourmet scones, divine desserts and tea. They also sell an excellent selection of dried tea by the ounce. Reservations recommended.
