Valentine’s Day may be over with, but that doesn’t mean the romance is gone. This weekend, skip the rom-com and roses and get creative. These unique Wisconsin date ideas are sure to leave an impression on your plus one.
Mad Rollin’ Dolls Roller Derby — Madison
Roller Derby is taking Wisconsin sports by storm. On Saturday, Feb. 16, Exhibition Hall is hosting two games: The Vaudeville Vixens are up against the Reservoir Dolls before the Unholy Rollers tackle The Fury from Chicago’s Windy City Rollers. There's also a fan contest for the ugliest tattoo, with a free cover up grand prize. The action starts at 6 p.m. Follow things up with a drink and karaoke at Mediterranean Hooka Lounge & Café.
Barlow Planetarium — Menasha
Snuggling up under the stars in winter may seem as out there as outer space, but the magic of the planetarium at UW-Fox Valley makes it possible. Wisconsin’s unique astronomy is used for each show, called Wisconsin Skies, and the show changes as our skies do. More than Meets the Eye, their current feature show, runs until March 1. Even better? The planetarium makes for a cheap date - adult tickets are only $7. (Don’t worry, we won’t tell.)
Amy’s at Woodhaven — Mountain
If you want to share your love of cooking with the one you love, Amy’s is just the place. Bring your skills to the table with a private cooking class between you, your date and the instructor (or schedule your own class for groups up to 14). Guests participate in a hands-on class that ends with dinner and wine. The best part? You choose the topic — like pasta, sushi or homemade sauces. The event takes 4 hours and is $55 per person.
Uptown Art — Sussex
Even if you don’t consider yourself a painter, these classes will make you one. Each class mimics a designated painting that the instructor shows you how to complete step-by-step, making it a true work of art. Unlike your childhood art class, this one has a bar, so you can sip some vino while you work. Cost ranges from $30-$35 and includes a canvas and all painting materials.
