One of the best perks of the weekend is going out for breakfast. Usually that means stopping by a restaurant, but if it’s spring or summertime in Wisconsin, you’ll find breakfast being served just a little bit closer to the source – on the farm!
Oh yes, this isn’t just farm-to-table: we’ve brought the table to the farm. A breakfast table piled high with eggs, pancakes, milk and more, all served by the fantastic farmers themselves. Located on various dairy farms throughout the state, these events are the perfect opportunity for your family to sample country hospitality, enjoy a great home-cooked meal and connect with the people who make America’s Dairyland the friendly, fresh and delicious place that it is.
In addition to an old-fashioned breakfast, many of the farms host live music, games, petting zoos and activities for kids to enjoy all morning long. So come on out! Here are just a few of the spots where you can join in this Dairy State tradition.
Breakfast on the Farm Events in Wisconsin
Green County Breakfast On The Farm
The Green County breakfast doesn't just have scrambled eggs, sausage, cheese, coffee cake and ice cream. Dance along to the music stylings of The Soggy Prairie Boys, or browse through ag equipment displays. To kick off crafting season, the breakfast also has its own craft show. This breakfast has grown immensely over the years and can now expect to use more than 1,800 dozen eggs, 1,300 pounds of sausage, 5,000 half-pints of milk, 110 pounds of butter, 480 pounds of cheese and 26 jars of coffee.
Brown County Breakfast On The Farm
Brown County kicks their day of festivities off with church service before breakfast is served. As you're perusing the breakfast line, don't miss out on the delicious cinnamon rolls or some deep-fried cheese. Stick around after breakfast to tour the farm and get up-close views of the dairy cows and the cute little calves!
You'll think the cows are out when arriving at Rock County's breakfast. Their ever-popular crafty cow contest brings together local businesses, clubs and individuals to design a plywood cow - some of which even wear costumes. All of these crafty cows are "grazing" at each year's breakfast for attendees to vote on their favorite, and prizes are awarded to top vote-getters. Live entertainment will keep you tapping your foot through the day.
Dane County Breakfast on the Farm
Dane County brings it all when it comes to celebrity appearances! While you enjoy live music, meet Bessy the Dane Dairy Cow and Dane County's Fairest of the Fair. Here, you'll learn all about the dairy industry including the calves, milking area, feeding and the freestall barn where the cows are housed.
In addition to their breakfast on the farm event, Dane County also hosts Cows on the Concourse the weekend before. To kick of June Dairy Month, local dairy farms bring some of their cows right down to the Capitol Square for a meet and greet with people of all ages.
Manitowoc County Breakfast on the Farm
Drawing more than 4,000 people annually, Manitowoc County invites you to tour a local dairy farm and enjoy a home-cooked breakfast. Children's games, a cow-shaped bounce house and activities will all be available, and don't miss the crowning of the Dairy Princess and Miss Farm Bureau!
Marinette County Breakfast on the Farm
Be sure to come hungry to the Marinette County breakfast, where they’ll be serving up pancakes, eggs, cheese curds, and ice cream sundaes all morning long. Enjoy live music and the Moo-Mania comedy show, or get a farmers-eye view of the land with tractor rides.
La Crosse County Dairy Breakfast
There's quite a kids' carnival at the La Crosse County breakfast, complete with inflatables and games. Check out real farm machinery, nab yourself a pile of squeeky cheese curds and finish off with an ice cream sundae!
Kenosha County Dairy Breakfast
Kenosha County makes a festival out of their annual dairy breakfast. Spend your morning on the farm where you'll not only be fed a big breakfast, but also get an up-close view of milking demonstrations. If you've ever been to the Wisconsin Products Pavillion at the State Fair, Kenosha brings a smaller version to the Wisconsin Products Tent at their dairy breakfast.
Sheboygan County Breakfast on the Farm
Meet Sheboygan County Fairest of the Fair and the Holstein Princess at Sheboygan County's breakfast. Bring the kids to join in on the pedal tractor pull and visit with the animals in the petting zoo. Farm tours allow you and your family to venture around and see what this year's host family is all about. Don't miss out on those ice cream sundaes!
You don't want to miss Dad's Belgian waffles at Pierce County's breakfast! Grab some deep-fried cheese curds (who says they're not breakfast food?) and check out the corn box and petting zoo.
Shawano County Brunch on the Farm
Before scarfing down a delicious home-cooked meal, start the day off with a 5K run/walk at Shawano County's brunch on the farm, which includes both dirt and road terrain. After filling your belly, enjoy a farm tour and wagon ride. Let the kids burn off some energy with games, a scavenger hunt and more!
Jackson County On-The-Farm Breakfast
Rise early for a full morning of fun at the Jackson County farm breakfast, featuring live music, cheese making demonstrations, horse-drawn wagon rides and, of course, a delicious meal. Be sure to bring your gardening questions to ask their Master Gardener, and stop by the petting zoo to get up close and personal with the farm’s furry friends!
