Trail Description
This 40-mile rails-to-trail connects Dodgeville and Madison (paved from Verona into Madison). The trail also connects to the Shake Rag Trail in Dodgeville, and to several Trails (Capital City, Badger,...) in Fitchburg. Seasonal Trailside restrooms & water in downtown Verona, Mt Horeb & Barneveld. State Trail Pass required. Listed Trail Location is the large Verona parking lot where the paved and crushed limestone sections meet. Several other parking/trailhead areas are available along the Trail (see Trail map).
Condition Description
A 1.25-mile section of the Military Ridge Trail from Epic Lane to Wildcat Way may be closed for construction work to widen the tunnels under Hwy. 18/151. Users may follow marked detours around the closure. The 4-miles of paved Trail, Verona to Fitchburg roundabout is mostly very good, with a few small bumps near the Verona end. The limestone Trail is mostly good, with an occasional rut, damp spot or bumpy bridge. Wildflowers are blooming.
