The Wisconsin State Polka Festival

We love our polka in Wisconsin, it’s a fact! How much do we love it? We have the Wisconsin State Polka Festival in Sullivan, May 13-15, 2011. If you’re not familiar with it, there’s no better to sample Polish heritage in Wisconsin.

The festival entertainment includes nine big bands playing Dutchmen, Polish, Czech, Slovenian, and German style polka music. A few bands in the Wisconsin Polka Hall of Fame will even perform, including Music Connection, Karl & The Country Dutchmen and Goodtime Dutchmen. Two large wooden dance floors are available for action. Take advantage of them because there will be a dance exhibition Saturday night.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a Wisconsin festival without great food and prizes. Friday night features a fish bake and polka jam. Sunday morning, there will be a Polka Mass. During the event, the Wisconsin State Polka Queen will be crowned too.

After dominating the Wisconsin State Polka Festival, you’ll be all set for Pulaski Polka Days in July. Unless you think you need more practice. In that case hit up Kochanski’s Concertina Bar in Milwaukee for live polka music on the weekends.
