Cedars Lock
The Fox River lock system once consisted of twenty four locks from Portage to De Pere, this mid-19th century system connected the Great Lakes with ports on the Mississippi River and the Gulf of Mexico. Today it is one of two hand-operated lock systems left in existence in the United States. Located a few miles downriver from the four Appleton Locks, the Cedars Lock is located in the middle of a 100-foot elevation drop between Appleton Lock 1 and Kaukauna Lock 5 as the Fox River makes its way to Green Bay. Parking, boat launch, and portage locations available near the lock site.
