Once upon a time, in the early years of the Driver Opera House, touring vaudevillian shows would travel along Route 78 from Madison to Peoria and stop in Darlington to perform at the Driver Opera House. The Fantasticks has an almost vaudevillian-like quality to the show with its broad comedy and stock characters. Also, the simplicity of this musical with a small cast (8 members) and minimal sets and costuming lends itself to the quaintness and simplicity of the Driver Opera House.
