Featuring new work by Liz Rundorff Smith, Mollie Oblinger, and Barbara Campbell Thomas. Somatic Shapes refers to the way the artists in the exhibition use both positive and negative shapes in unusual, atypical ways. Liz Rundorff Smith creates luscious encaustic paintings that feel both sculptural and two-dimensional. Mollie Oblinger has created wall sculptures from the imprints of tree rings where you can immediately feel the poignant empty space where the solid tree once was. Barbara Campbell Thomas pieces together sewn fabric shapes in a very traditional method much like quilting but the results are stunning contemporary abstracts that are more akin to paintings.

Opening reception Friday, September 6th; 5:30-8pm.
