Cave of the Mounds was discovered on August 4, 1939. Come celebrate our 84th anniversary with a week packed with fun! July 31st- August 4th, 2023

Daily Hours: 9 AM to 5 PM with the last entry into the cave at 4 PM.  

SPECIAL FLASHLIGHT EXPERIENCE To recreate the wonder of discovery experienced by those quarry workers, guests will be walking through a small section of the cave by flashlight only. Flashlights are provided or you can bring your own. Take a trip through the cave you won’t forget!  

FREE MINING BAG FOR KIDS Enjoy our Gem and Fossil Mining Sluice! All children* (ages 12 and under) will receive some free “mining rough”. Youngsters will discover gemstone and fossil treasures to share, learn from and keep. *With paid cave admission  

FREE GUIDED WALK-N-TALKS Everyone is invited to participate in a guided above-ground journey! Learn more about our story from mining to cave discovery and beyond. Daily at 11 AM and 2 PM. Unlimited spaces are available!  

HISTORIC BARN OPEN! Our knowledgeable guides will help you identify your treasures, lead educational and creative activities, and answer all your questions about Cave of the Mounds! Examine cave formations up close, investigate large mineral and fossil specimens, study natural items found around the grounds, and enjoy the nostalgia of our 1880s barn.
