Hailed for her “clean coloratura and silvery voice”, Kathryn Henry is quickly making a name for herself as one of the most promising young sopranos to watch. She graciously moves audiences with her “flawless sense of line” and “shimmering warmth of sound” that “combines dignity and strength with profound sorrow.”

Kathryn was a finalist in the 2015 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, the 2018 Eleanor McCollum Competition for Young Singers at Houston Grand Opera, the 2021 Jensen Foundation Vocal Competition, and the 2021 National Opera Association Carolyn Bailey and Dominick Argento Vocal Competition. She has also won awards in the Musicians Club of Women Vocal Competition and the Opera Index Vocal Competition and was a semifinalist in the 2020 James Toland Vocal Arts International Singing Competition. Following her debut at Santa Fe Opera, she was awarded the Lillian Caroff Mayer Award for outstanding talent and work as a part of the Apprentice Singer program.Acclaimed for her interpretation of song and symphonic works, Kathryn has appeared as a guest soloist with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra, and National Symphony Orchestra. In recital, she has performed alongside pianists Brian Zeger, Craig Rutenburg, and Mikael Eliasen. She continued to work on song repertoire while being a member of the 2020 Steans Music Institute at the Ravinia Festival. In the summer of 2017, Ms. Henry was invited to Japan as a guest singer in the Kyoto International Student Music Festival.

Houston-based pianist and coach Madeline Slettedahl is an acclaimed collaborator known for her “exciting” and “extraordinarily expressive” performances (Seen and Heard International.) In the 2021-2022 season, she joined the Houston Grand Opera music staff, assisting on their productions of Carmen, Dialogues des Carmélites, and Roméo et Juliette. In the summers of 2020 (virtual) and 2021, Madeline was on staff with the Opera Theatre of Saint Louis as a principal coach for the company’s celebrated Gerdine Young Artist Program.

An enthusiastic recitalist, Madeline has established a collaborative relationship with many singers from the Ryan Opera Center, and has been featured on such esteemed recital series including the Carnegie Hall Citywide Series, Chicago’s Dame Myra Hess Memorial Concerts, the Collaborative Art Institute of Chicago’s Lieder Lounge, and the Cincinnati Song Initiative Recital Series. In addition to her work with singers, Madeline regularly performs chamber music with instrumentalists and has been featured with Icicle Creek Chamber Players and The Bellingham Festival of Music.
