On stage at Monroe Arts Center (MAC).

Kuniko Yamamoto’s charming Japanese folktales are combined with traditional musical instruments, magical masks, origami and mime to create a spellbinding story. Kuniko’s marvelous performance promotes cross-cultural communication and understanding in an entertaining way. A native of Japan and an award winning theatre performer, Kuniko came to the United States in 1985 to study theatre with Tony Montanaro.

Over the last two decades, she has performed her solo show, “Japanese Storytelling with Magical Mask, Mime & Music” and “Origami Tales” in venues such as Disney’s Epcot Center, The Kennedy Center and the National Storytelling Festival. As a teaching artist, she has taught Origami Math & Storytelling at more than 2,000 schools & colleges.

Following this performance, audience members can retreat to Rudd Hall for refreshments and a mini workshop where Kuniko will guide participants in trying origami for themselves. There is no additional cost- your ticket covers the workshop as well.
