All About the Music

Known as "The World's Largest Music Festival," Summerfest attracts nearly a million festival-goers to Milwaukee every year, between June and July, with an all-star lineup of musical performances.

The nine-day festival, which has brought music lovers to Wisconsin for over 50 years, features 11 stages and famous headliners, from Chance the Rapper to Luke Bryan, as well as local and emerging artists.

Summerfest takes place at Henry Maier Festival Park, situated along Lake Michigan. The largest stage at the festival is the American Family Insurance Amphitheater, where headliners play. Attendees can purchase single-day or multi-pass tickets; children and seniors receive discounted rates.

What makes this festival noteworthy is that general admission is relatively cheap and provides access to most performances. You must purchase a separate ticket for amphitheater performances. Often, solo artists and bands that play on the general admission stages become the next big thing. Before Imagine Dragons hit it big and headlined Summerfest, the pop-rock band played for general admission festival-goers. So, who knows, you may discover the next music sensation for only the price of admission.

Other Festival Goods

Besides dancing and singing along to your favorite artists, shopping and eating are also popular festival pastimes.

Between performances, you can shop for art, clothes and more from the nearly 100 on-site vendors, some of which offer face painting for kids and henna tattoos. Be sure to stop at the Summerfest shop for official festival apparel and accessories.

After working up an appetite, grab delicious festival grub at one of the dozens of food and beverage vendors, from an on-site beer garden and sandwich shop to a mini donut stand.

Rock Star Accommodations

With countless hotels lining the city streets near the festival grounds, you don’t have to travel far to get a good night's sleep.

About a 15-minute walk from Summerfest is the trendy Kimpton Journeyman Hotel. The Brewhouse Inn & Suites, where the original Pabst Brewery once resided, is just a short car ride away.
