Sturgeon Celebration Tour
Join us for a special guided tour of the traditional sturgeon spawning grounds on the Menominee Reservation. The tour will include stops at Keshena Falls and the Balsam Row dam on the Wolf River and discussion about the tribe's sturgeon management plan. David Grignon, Historic Preservation Officer, Menominee Indian Tribe of Wisconsin, Historic Preservation Department, described the significance of the spawning grounds, "For countless generations spring settlements were founded along the shores of Lake Michigan, Green Bay as tributary streams and river conditions for sturgeon were favorable. The most important among these sites was Keshena Falls, which the Menominee called, Nama'o Uskiwamut, 'Sturgeon Spawning Place.'" Your registration fee for this event will be donated to the Menominee tribe. Held in conjunction with the Sturgeon Feast & Celebration Powwow.
