At the southern end of our forest, near LaGrange is the Nordic trail system. It has 7 different looping trails varying in length from 0.7 miles to 8.9 miles. The terrain varies from fairly flat trails (white, brown, purple) to more hilly trails (red, orange, green, blue). Trails meander thru open fields, hardwood forests and pine plantations. (Nordic trail when groomed for cross-country skiing is closed to hiking). At the northern end of our forest, near Dousman, is the Scuppernong trail system. It has 3 looping trails, varying from 2.3 to 4.9 miles long. They are hilly trails, meandering thru both pine plantations and hardwood forests. The Ice Age trail runs continuously for 33 miles thru the Southern Unit. It does not loop but provides unique hiking experience. We also have 4 different nature trails - short 1mile trails that highlight various features of the Kettle Moraine Southern Unit. Paradise Springs Nature Trail offers an ADA accessible trail leading to a trout pond. The nature trails do NOT allow dogs. Mountain bike trails (John Muir & Emma Carlin) are open to hiking but keep in mind they are very, very busy on the weekends and are narrow trails designed for bikers. A vehicle admission sticker is required to visit state park system properties which can be purchased online or onsite thru the self-registration envelopes with cash or check. This is a state forest and is open to hunting - It is recommended to wear bright clothing when on the trails. Click "Visit Website" to view maps of all the trails on our website. Questions call Forest Headquarters at 262-594-6200 M-Fri 9am-4pm: All vehicles are required to have either an annual State Park Sticker or daily sticker. Fees boxes are available at the trailheads with cash or check. Stickers may be bought online - check dnr.wi.gov
Condition descriptions for this trail are currently informed by the DNR Property Condition Notices map. When no alerts are active, trails are rated in fair condition.
