The Kickapoo Valley Reserve (KVR) has an extensive system of natural surface trails for equestrians, bikers, and hikers. The equestrian and mountain bike trails are open from May 1 through November 15, as weather permits. Hiking is permitted year-round on all trails. The KVR will temporarily close equestrian and mountain bike trails during and/or after rain events. The duration of the closure depends on many factors, such as amount of rain, when the last rain event occurred, and the weather since the last rain event. Therefore, trails may be closed on bright sunny days if a rainfall occurred the previous day(s) or during the night. Old Highway 131 Trail and Star Valley Trail remain open for equestrian and bike use during wet conditions between May 1 and November 15 (even if other trails are closed). Bridge 13 on Old Highway 131 Trail has been registered as a historic marker. Old Highway 131 Trail is designated as a National Recreation Trail by the US Department of Interior. Some trail segments may be closed to construction, or significant trail damage. Watch for signs along trails or contact the KVR office for more information. A Day or Annual Pass is required for trail use (adults 16 and older) and includes parking. A Parking Only permit is required at KVR canoe landings (Landings 5, 7, 10, 12, & 14). Permits are available online at: https://kvronline.wi.gov/KVRProducts.aspx Note: The Reserve is open for public hunting.
