Newport's wilderness experience offers over 2,300 acres of forest on 11 miles of Lake Michigan shoreline, 30 miles of hiking trails through boreal forests, wooded uplands, meadows and along the shoreline. Backpack camping at the park is a quiet alternative to bustling Door County. At the far end of the Door Peninsula, Newport is also designated as a Dark Sky Park, a perfect destination for stargazing. A vehicle admission sticker is required to visit state park system properties which can be purchased online or onsite.
Condition descriptions for this trail are currently informed by the DNR Property Condition Notices map. When no alerts are active, trails are rated in fair condition.
