The Gold Star Memorial Trail – Phase 1, is a 10-foot wide, paved, non-motorized path that provides an off-road connection between the City of Mayville and the Horicon Marsh State Wildlife Area and Visitor Center, mostly following Hwy 28. The eastern trailhead is at Theiler Park along Hwy TW in the City of Mayville. Currently biking is not permitted on the trails beyond the Gold Star Memorial Trail in the Horicon Marsh State Wildlife Area. Phase 4, is an on-road bike route in the City of Horicon from the Horicon Marsh at Palmatory St. winding through the City and ending on the west end of the City at Whitty Park along County Road E & W. Lake St. Phase 2 from the City of Horicon to the Wild Goose State Trail is in the final design and engineering stage with construction expected in 2025. A total of 5 Phases are planned to connect the City of Mayville to the City of Beaver Dam. Honoring a request from Dodge County Gold Star families, the trail serves as a memorial to Wisconsin military service members who have been killed in action and the families that endured their loss. Information is located in kiosks along the trail in remembrance of our local heroes that have made the ultimate sacrifice protecting our country. Since 1991, Dodge County has lost 6 service members from communities that will be linked by the Trail.
