There are numerous hiking trails in Kenosha County, including trails at Hawthorn Hollow Nature Sanctuary and Arboretum. Hawthorn Hollow’s nearly five miles of trails allow visitors to experience a variety of habitats, including upland and floodplain forests, prairies, wetlands, and flower gardens. The trails cross the Pike River and lead to points of interest such as historic buildings, a wildlife blind, a scenic boardwalk, a forest canopy overlook, and Hawthorn Hollow’s Heritage Farmstead. The trails are free and open to the public, but biking, horseback riding, motorized vehicles, and pets are not allowed. Hawthorn Hollow’s hours vary seasonally, and trails are closed on Mondays, as well as from December 24 through March 1.
The trails are maintained with mulch, mowed grass, gravel, or flagstone.
