Dane County Historical Society
The Dane County Historical Society is a non-profit organization. Our primary mission is education: promoting an awareness of Dane County’s rich heritage, thus aiding in its preservation. We carry out this mission through our special events, programs, and publications.
On site at our office is the Otto Schroeder Records Center which is home to the Dane County Historical Society collection. This collection includes historical documentation of the people, places, businesses, and organizations with ties to the County. These are available in books periodicals, pamphlets, diaries, scrapbooks, organization records, and more. The Otto Schreoder Records Center is open by appointment only.
Another way in which we work to educate the public about the history of Dane County is through our Historical Marker Program. Approximately each year since 1963, the Dane County Historical Society erects a marker that notes a person, site, or event that was significant in the history of Dane County, WI. There are currently 46 markers in Dane County, with plans for another for 2017 underway.
