MATT SCOTT'S TOP SPOTS FOR WISCONSIN FUN
There’s a million ways to have fun in Wisconsin – and no reason not to.
Take it from Matt Scott, wheelchair basketball champion extraordinaire. He’s a four-time Paralympian, winning a Bronze and Gold medal during the London and Rio games, and lover of all things Wisconsin. He was born in Michigan, attended University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and vacations in Wisconsin every. Single. Summer.
Find fun, food, and friends everywhere in Madison.
To get a sense of Madison’s unique, fun vibe, you can’t miss a stop at the Union Terrace. Sat right at the edge of Lake Mendota, the Terrace is the go-to place for great food, live music, and one of the best sunsets in town.
For drinks with a view, Eno Vino can’t be beat – ten stories up, this bar offers incredible sights of the Capitol and downtown Madison.
And what better way to get around than with a ride on the Pedal Tavern? Flying down State Street with a group of friends, this is one of the best ways to start a night out downtown.
Relax on the beaches in Door County.
There’s few better places to relax and recharge than in Door County. Renting a cabin on the water is a great way to spend quality time with friends, and enjoy awesome views of Lake Michigan.
Door County’s food scene is all about keeping it fresh and local – places like Wild Tomato use local ingredients in their unique pizzas, and you’ll find plenty of beers brewed right in Wisconsin at the Door County Beer Festival. And when you’re ready to hit the beach, you’ll find miles of sandy shoreline perfect for enjoying Door County’s beautiful outdoors.
Have a ball in the Dells.
It's hard to find a place as fun as the Waterpark Capital of the World, where high-speed thrills await you and your friends.
You can spend all day enjoying the three miles of waterslides at Noah's Ark, America's largest waterpark. When you need a break from the excitement, grab a drink at the bar without leaving the pool at the Wilderness. You'll find fish fry, curd burgers, and fresh brewed sodas and beer at Sprecher's Restaurant & Pub.
See the city a whole new way.
The City of Festivals is filled with food, beer, and activities to enjoy with close friends. This makes it a perfect stop for summer fun.
You'll enjoy a unique and scenic perspective of the city as you paddle along the river with Milwaukee Kayak. There are delicious burgers aplenty at Sobelman's, and if you're feeling really adventurous, go for their massive Bloody Mary. And no matter what style of music you enjoy, Summerfest, the world's largest music festival will keep you dancing for 11 straight days.
Matt's spina bifida may keep him in a wheelchair, but his positive personality can’t be held down. Spend a few minutes with him and you’ll feel the incredible energy that turned him into a gold medal-winning Paralympian.
Matt’s roots in Wisconsin were established when UW-Whitewater recruited him for their wheelchair basketball team –and once he got a taste of the state, he couldn’t let go. Wisconsin feels like home to him, and that’s what brings him back every summer.
