There are lots of mountain biking options in Iron County. More than 300 miles of routes are part of the Pines & Mines system. You can trace the rugged Penokee Range or visit historic mine sites on Pines & Mines routes. On Trail #13 you can cruise past a vast flowage, visit a picturesque waterfall, and ride the extraordinary Hogsback Road. Starting at the Montreal City Hall, you have the option of riding west on-street or taking the Montreal XC Ski Trails. Either way, you are soon headed south past beautiful views of the Gile Flowage. You can opt to visit secluded Spring Camp Falls from the west on a primitive road that challenges your skill with sand, mud and ruts; or save your visit for the return stretch and ride in on a better road from the east. At the south end of the loop, Hogsback Road rises and falls through the surrounding bog like some giant serpent. Steep climbs and descents marked by beautiful views from the high points top-off a wonderful tour.
