The Michell-Rountree Stone Cottage, located in Platteville, WI is a little gem of history. Built in 1837 by Reverend Samuel Mitchell and his wife, the Cottage is made of local dolomite stone and boasts a fireplace in the original five rooms. Mitchell was a Virginia Revolutionary War veteran. The Cottage sits on 2.5 acres of tree-filled lawn and is perfect for enjoying a stroll. The home stayed in the Mitchell and Rountree family until 1966 when it was given to the Grant County Historical Society to care for. The home has been operated as a tour site during the summer since the 1970s. Visitors will enjoy the beauty of the architecture, furnishings, and antique clothing as well as the many stories of the fascinating people who lived there.
