The Oregon Area Historical Society was established in 1987, formed by local residents passionate about preserving and sharing Oregon's history and that of its surrounding region. One of the society’s main goals was to create and house a museum. When the Oregon Lumber Company building on West Lincoln Street became available, it was purchased and donated by Florice Paulson in memory of her parents and grandparents. The museum was officially dedicated on May 18, 1991, coinciding with Oregon’s 150th birthday.

The museum is free to visit during its open hours, and private tours are also available upon request.
