About Omaha Trail
Juneau County has tapped into the rail-trail phenomenon with a 13-mile trail running south from Camp Douglas to Elroy. Anyone who has traveled Interstate 90/94 will remember Camp Douglas - home of the remarkable sandstone bluffs that tower over the four-lane. Nearby, Mill Bluff State Park offers the opportunity to get "up close and personal" with several of these glacial monoliths. Bike campers will find 21 campsites there as well as a small pond for swimming. Camp Douglas is also home to Volk Field and the Wisconsin National Guard Museum. A short bike tour of the base passes many static displays of vintage aircraft. The Omaha Trail runs south to Elroy where it joins the Elroy-Sparta and "400" State Trails. On the way you'll visit the quaint village of Hustler, then roll through a tunnel, the only other trail tunnel in the state besides those on the Elroy-Sparta Trail and the Badger State Trail. The Omaha Trail tunnel is short; less than two blocks long, and not too intimidating for kids or claustrophobic adults. Just think of it as "tunnel training camp."
