About Pine River Recreation Trail
Richland County's Driftless Area geography can be hard on a bicyclist's legs. On the Pine River Trail the gentle 14.3 mile trail follows an abandonded Milwaukee Road rail bed for a low intensity peddle. Along the way you'll cross 15 bridges that span the meandering Pine River and its tributaries. One bridge is a whopping 241 feet long. Between Richland Center and Lone Rock you'll be treated to views of green-forested bluffs lining the broad valleys of the Pine and Wisconsin Rivers. The river backwaters are havens for great blue herons, egrets, turtles and other wildlife. Town Parks in Gotham and Lone Rock offer pleasant rest stops. At Fireman's Park, on the south side of Lone Rock, you can swim in a backwater slough of the Wisconsin River.
