About Heins Creek Nature Preserve
Enjoy discovering the wonders of nature found here! This is one of 14 featured Door County Land Trust nature preserves that showcase the scenic beauty and natural diversity that make Door County so special. Nature preserves are open to the public at no charge for hiking, skiing, photography, nature study and other low-impact, non-motorized activities.
Trail parallels banks of the creek and traverses sand dunes blanketed with mature stands of hemlock, white cedar, sugar maple, and yellow birch, which tower over Heins Creek, offering shade and cover for fish and wildlife. Heins Creek teems with fish in spring and fall, and the forest canopy attracts a variety of birds throughout the year.
