About Sauk Creek Nature Preserve
Sauk Creek Nature Preserve spans 27 acres of diverse landscapes. The namesake creek winds north to south over limestone bedrock before flowing into Lake Michigan near the marina. Along its path, you’ll find a rich floodplain forest and wetland seeps that feed fresh water into the stream. The eastern half of the preserve, once farmland, has been reclaiming itself for over 30 years and is now home to a thriving second-growth forest.
Trails connect the area to nearby neighborhoods, and a footbridge offers easy access to the creek. Whether you're hiking, birdwatching, or fishing, this scenic preserve is a quiet haven for both people and wildlife. It also serves as an important ecological corridor and a hands-on learning space for the community. Leashed pets are welcome, too.
