About Bald Eagle Watching - Prairie du Chien
Experience incredible bald eagle viewing in Prairie du Chien, a prime wintering destination along the Mississippi River migration route. Visitors can spot eagles soaring above open water near downtown bridges, perched along the river, or nesting in scenic areas north of the city. Just 11 miles north of Prairie du Chien, Lock and Dam No. 9 offers excellent opportunities to watch eagles feeding and gathering along the river. Late winter is an especially exciting time to visit, as nesting pairs prepare for egg laying, which typically begins in late February and early March.
