About Pearl Island Recreational Area
Pearl Island spans 180 acres along the Sugar River and Mill Race, offering recreational fun year-round. Visitors can enjoy wildlife watching from benches, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, and pontoon boating. Small motor boats, pontoons, and paddlecraft have easy water access. Head Gates Park on Golf Course Road provides parking, restrooms, and picnic tables, while a short walk or bike ride north leads to Decatur Lake Dam with a mini picnic shelter and grill. Scenic vistas, benches, and birdhouses are scattered throughout the corridor.
