About Spooner Agriculture Research Station Teaching and Display Garden
This award winning one-acre garden includes landscaped perennial and annual display gardens, an enabling garden, themed vegetable gardens and displays of small fruits, grapes and fruit trees. It is an official All-America Selections Winner Display Garden that has received national recognition for its eye catching landscape design features. A portion of the garden is also recognized as an official Monarch WayStation for its butterfly and pollinator friendly plants. Various workshops and horticulture events are held throughout the growing season. The annual twilight Garden Tour is held on the third Tuesday in August and includes demonstrations, displays, and University Speakers, and tasting of grilled and fresh vegetables. The garden is open to the public for self guided tours during day light hours seven days a week mid-May through mid-October. Group tours are available on request. This garden is a joint effort between the Spooner Agriculture Research Station, operated by the University of Wisconsin-Madison College of Agriculture and Life Science, the University of Wisconsin Cooperative Extension and area UW-Extension Master Gardener Volunteers. While the garden is open to the public the surrounding University property is closed to the general public. The Spooner Agriculture Research Station is a working farm that provides both research and educational services to farmers and the general public. The Station also conducts research on corn, soybeans, hay, forage and other crops suitable for northern Wisconsin conditions.
