Forming the eastern boundary of Marinette County, the Menominee separates Wisconsin from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The upper stretch offers fast water and difficult rapids. Many rapids and dams must be portaged. NOTE: Portions of the upper river are extremely dangerous and should only be run by experts in decked boats. The lower river has a slower current with some low-hazard rapids.
