Upper Wisconsin River
The upper Wisconsin River (Vilas-Oneida County to Merrill) is a relaxing way to view the natural beauty of the Northwoods. Winding through forest and farmland, the majority of the river offers a slow current with few obstacles.
Historical Marker #21, located in Vilas County, marks the headwaters of the great Wisconsin River which flows south from Lac Vieux Desert as a scenic, winding stream with a good current and no rapids – ideal for families with children and less-experienced paddlers. With six (6) landings for put-in / take-out, come share the adventure of the voyageurs from long ago.
