About Big Bay State Park
Big Bay State Park showcases the natural beauty of Lake Superior along four miles of shoreline on the eastern side of Madeline Island, the largest of the 22 Apostle Islands. Visitors can explore rugged sandstone cliffs, sandy beaches, scenic hiking trails and a mile-long accessible boardwalk that winds through some of the park’s most unique landscapes. The park’s State Natural Area features bogs, barrier beaches, boreal forest and old-growth hemlock, offering plenty of opportunities to experience the diverse scenery.
Whether spending the day hiking and exploring the shoreline or staying overnight at the family campground or group camps, there is plenty to discover. A beach wheelchair is also available for visitors to use while enjoying the park. Just a short ferry ride from Bayfield, Big Bay State Park offers a memorable Lake Superior getaway.
