5 Great Snowboarding Parks in Wisconsin

If you love gliding down epic hills and through state-of-the-art terrain parks, it’s time you visit some of Wisconsin’s many slopes. Discover your next winter adventure at these five great snowboarding parks throughout the state.

Tyrol Basin - Mt. Horeb

Tyrol Basin caters to the snowboarding crowd with everything from lessons for beginners to competitions for more advanced snowboarders. And with six separate terrain parks for all levels, you and your crew can spend all day shredding here.

Tyrol Basin is also family-friendly with winter break camps and both private and group lessons for kids. And don’t forget all the tree-lined slopes for skiers and snowboarders, as well as the tubing hill for even more snowy fun.

Granite Peak Ski Area - Wausau

With more than 35 jibs and 15 jumps, Granite Peak Ski Area claims the largest and most diverse terrain parks in the Midwest. The parks are overseen by a crew of "seasoned shredders" who ride the hills daily to ensure smooth landings. 

Glide down as many of the 65 (!) downhill trails as you can, and when your crew needs a breather, gather at the Sundance Chalet or Historic Chalet and Deck that features six toasty fire pits and a wide selection of craft beers. With so many runs and such great amenities, your group will want to come back here again and again all winter long.

Cascade Mountain - Portage

Cascade Mountain near Portage offers four terrain parks aimed at adventuresome snowboarders and freeskiers. The Cottontail Beginner/Progression Park has small jumps and rails for those still learning the sport, while the JJ Park boasts such challenging features as one of America's longest S-rails. 

The longest trail at Cascade is called "Far Out," a beginner cruiser trail that takes you past old-growth forests, waterfalls and scenic rock formations. At just over a mile long, it makes for an unforgettable ride on a snowboard or skis. 

Wilmot Mountain - Wilmot

Originally opened in 1938, Wilmot Mountain has been a beloved snow sports destination for over eight decades. Right on the Wisconsin-Illinois border, it’s the perfect spot to escape from the city and spend quality time getting fresh winter air with family and friends. 

The resort was recently bought by Vail Resorts, who made major renovations that mirror its epic sister resorts in the Rockies out west. Improvements include a state-of-the-art ski and snowboard learning center for beginners, four terrain parks with unique and innovative features and three new quad chairlifts to transport guests back up from the 25 trails.

Christie Mountain - Bruce

A family-friendly (and family-owned!) ski area in the scenic Blue Hills region of northwestern Wisconsin, Christie Mountain is perhaps one of the state's best-kept secrets, offering skiing, snowboarding and tubing throughout dramatic landscapes. Three of the hill’s four terrain parks are serviced by rope tows for even faster fun.

The parks range from beginner level with features only inches from the ground, to two intermediate parks with larger jumps and finally to a snowboarding park known as Rusty's Revenge which challenges the top competitors with thrilling cliff jumps.
