5 Quiet and Cozy Wisconsin Cabins

Share

Taking some family time to reconnect and recharge is a must—so why not do it at a fabulous tucked-away cabin or cottage? These lovely properties all offer great vistas, activities to do and most importantly, great accommodations to suit everyone in the crew.

A Secret Cottage – Oxford

Just a half hour northeast of Wisconsin Dells in Oxford (but a world away) is A Secret Cottage, located on its own private lake. Guests will love this secluded spot with a cozy cabin that has all of the modern amenities (whirlpool tub, fireplace, screened-in porch) and a complimentary bottle of wine to boot.

Despite its tucked-away location, there’s still plenty to do here and in the area—including bird-watching, hiking, catch-and-release fishing, paddle boating, golfing and more. The name says it all, no?

Caribou Bay Retreat – Coloma

When a place has “retreat” in its name, you know it’ll be a proper getaway. Coloma’s Caribou Bay Retreat pays homage to the 12,500-year-old caribou shed found behind the main guest house (it’s displayed above the fireplace) and its rustic décor make a visit to this special cabin feel like a break from everyday life.

It’s conveniently located off of two segments of the Ice Age Trail, and the towering trees and expansive green spaces are a lovely reminder of simpler times. Of course, roasting marshmallows over the campfire, soaking in the hot tub and getting out on the semi-private lake are a must here.

Chanticleer Guest House – Sturgeon Bay

Although it’s close to Sturgeon Bay, it won’t feel like it when you stay at the Chanticleer Guest House’s cabins, located on 40 private wooded acres a few minutes from their main B&B property. Each of the four cottages and cabins overlook a half-acre private lake that attracts turkey, deer and other wildlife.

Despite their out-of-the-way locale, each cabin is luxe and upscale with relaxing whirlpool tubs, expansive porches (with swings!), fireplace and comfy king and queen-size beds.

Crowe’s Cabin – Ontario

Need a breather from the hustle and bustle? Check out Crowe’s Cabin in central Wisconsin for an escape. This Driftless Area gem offers fishing and canoeing in the nearby Kickapoo River, hiking on the more than 20 miles of trails in Wildcat State Park, biking the famous 32-mile Elroy-Sparta rail-to-trail section or enjoying a bite to eat at the renowned Driftless Café, known for its sourcing of ingredients from local organic farms in Vernon County.

The beautiful little cabin has touches of rustic décor to complement the dazzling bucolic view guests are treated to during their stay.

Bodin’s Bayfield Resort – Washburn

Getting away up north in Wisconsin is guaranteed to ferry you away from it all—and Bodin’s Bayfield Resort nestled on the shores of Lake Superior has a winning location with killer views of Chequamegon Bay. You don’t need to do much to enjoy your time here—simply taking in nature and the majestic pine trees may suffice. But if everyone’s itching to get out, take out a canoe or sit on the dock to drink in views of the glorious Lake Superior waters and five of the Apostle Islands.

There are wooded trails galore as well as back roads to walk, run or bike on. Washburn is only four miles south and Bayfield is only nine miles north, so exploring town is another fun way to while away the day.
