Explore International-Inspired Restaurants in Door County

Share

Door County’s culinary scene stands out for its wide range of delicious restaurants. Family-owned and independently-operated eateries throughout the peninsula put their heart and soul into their menus, many drawing inspiration from areas beyond Wisconsin. Transport your crew to distant corners of the world without leaving the blissful waterfront communities of Door County by adding these restaurants to your list.

Al Johnson’s Swedish Restaurant, Butik & Stabbur - Sister Bay

Look for the grass roof atop this iconic Swedish restaurant in Sister Bay where resident goats are not shy about being “on stage.” Swedish pancakes, topped with lingonberries, are a popular dish on the all-day breakfast menu along with the Swedish meatball sandwich. At the stabbur, a wooden building next door, you'll find food, drink and lawn games to enhance the experience with friends and family. Don’t forget to pop into the gift shop for a knit sweater, socks or hat imported from Norway!

Kitty O’Reilly’s Irish Pub - Sturgeon Bay

Every day is St. Patrick’s Day at this Irish pub in Sturgeon Bay, with a food menu that pairs perfectly with a pint of Guinness. Several traditional Irish recipes are on the menu, such as shepherd’s pie, corned beef and cabbage, an open-faced Reuben and Irish stew. Dine with your crew on the outside patio that hosts live music on weekends from June through August to further enjoy the ambiance together.

Prince of Pierogi - Ephraim

Considered Poland’s “comfort food,” pierogis are the highlight at this authentic Polish restaurant in downtown Ephraim. Everything here is made to order, including hunter’s stew (a hearty concoction of cabbage, sauerkraut, mushrooms, tomatoes and meat), kielbasa hot dogs and even sweet pierogis made with Door County cherries. For meat-free diners in your group, there’s a rare find (for a Polish restaurant): vegan cabbage rolls! These come stuffed with rice, mushrooms, onions and bell peppers in place of the traditional beef filling.

Crate - Sturgeon Bay

Vegans can also find plenty to enjoy at Door County’s only sushi restaurant, located in Sturgeon BayCrate features include an Avocado Kappa roll with cucumber as well as Yasai Hi rolls with grilled tofu, scallions, sweet chili, red peppers, cucumbers and fried carrots. Additionally, there are four gluten-free combos that further cater to special diets. But what makes this more than just a great sushi restaurant are the supplementary menu items that include some Door County classics. For example, you can also add bread service, brussel sprouts, New York strip steak, pork belly ramen and Door County whitefish to your sushi order!

Wild Tomato  - Fish Creek and Sister Bay

Diners of all ages flock to this artisan pizzeria in Sister Bay for the delicious wood-fired pies, available for either dine-in or take-out to a local park or beach, or back to the hotel. In addition to pizza, the shareable appetizers offer equally tantalizing tastes of Italy and Wisconsin. This includes more decadent options such as hand-tied burrata served with prosciutto and roasted tomatoes spread on crostini as well as classic fried cheese curds.

Signature pizzas also nod to both the Dairy State and Italy, such as “The Green & Gold” (topped with broccoli, spinach, chicken, bacon and cheese curds) and “Paisano” (in Italian, this means “fellow Italian” and the pizza is robust: soppressata, Italian sausage, calabrese peppers and more).

Still hungry? Experience a traditional Door County fish boil with family and friends.
